SHONGUM SPORTSMEN'S 2024 TRAPDOOR SHOOT

Shooters celebrated our country's post-Civil War History by competing with the firearms
that helped to make this country great - The Trapdoor Rifle

Following the US Civil War, thousands of Rifled Muskets were available, but they were obsolete Muzzle-Loaders.

Recognizing their shortcomings, and to save money, the miltary adopted the
TRAPDOOR MODIFICATION
to enable these guns to be converted to Cartride Firing Breech Loaders .

Issued to Army Cavalry Units in the American West,
these guns paved the way to our WESTWARD EXPANSION

However, innovations quickly made most of these guns obsolete with the development of
Smokeless Powder and Magazine-Fed Bolt and Lever Action Rifles.

In Celebration of our Trapdoor Heritage

Shongum Sportsmen Association

Invited one and all to compete with tangible links to

Shoot Report by Geoff. W.

This year, the shoot was run by Bryan Thompson and Frank Martin,
in Stan Gurski's absence. (Stan was ill and could not make it this year)

Stan was missed and we ran the shoot in his honor. Get well soon Stan!

Weather was clear, sunny and warm.

Lunch was provided as planned.
Special thanks to Frank M. and Bryan T. for bringing the food and preparing lunch.

Competition began under bright skies shortly after 10:00am following all safety rules.

Ten Shooters participated and had a great deal of fun.

There were no entries for the "CADET" match.

The following slide show illustrates some of the great guns we had on the line along with several very familiar faces.
