Indoor 50' Pistol Range

Saturday, February 10, 2018
10:00am - 3:30pm

In honor of Police Week,
All profits will go to local Police Charities

This event was hosted by the Shongum Sportsmen and run by members who are also NJACC members.
Stan Gurski planned and ran the shoot, with assistance of Steve S. and Pete M.

After all expenses were paid, more than $120 was raised to benefit the local Police Dept.

The Matches

The TV-Land Cop Shoot was a fun filled event that featured just about every TV Cops' firearms. The categories were based upon what guns were used in TV Cop shows. Police "profile" targets in a variety of colors were used - Orange, Green, and Blue. Last year's experience (2013) showed that the shooters could not see hits on the black targets, so this year they were not used at all.

We had 18 categories and 2 special trophies.

The "Cagney & Lacey" Trophy was to go to the Female Shooter with the Highest Score from any match. We had no female contestants this year.

The "Barney Fife" Trophy for the lowest score by any shooter was issued this year to a Good Sport. Our usual Chef du Jour, Tom P. supplied the coffee and donuts. Since he was not cooking, he had the opportunity to shoot. Tom P. won the Barney Fife Trophy with the lowest score submitted, 39 of 250 for the Thomas Magnum Match . Tom used his Springfield Armory 1911A1 in .45acp.

All matches were shot in the same manner, except for the "Central Casting Hood" match. In that match, any gun could be shot "Gangsta Style" with the knuckles up.

All the matches had three 25-second relays with a total of 25 rounds shot per match.

  1. The first relay was 10 rounds from the "FBI Crouch" at 7 Yards. Competitors fired 5 rounds, reloaded and fired the last 5 rounds.
The "FBI" Crouch requres a single handed crouching stance facing forward with the gun brought up to elbow height. A string should have been held at about 42" off the ground, but was not used this year. As a result, some shooters improperly aimed at the target yielding higher scores. However, the winner in these matches shot correctly.
  2. Second relay was 10 rounds in 25 seconds. Position was 5 Rounds -"Off-Hand" -Right handed, Double Action (if applicable) extended arm using sights, followed by 5 Rounds "Off-Hand" Left Hand
  3. Third relay used the "Combat Stance" using 2 hands and aiming. Slower Fire - 5 Rounds in 25 Seconds.

Following the completion of each set of relays, shooters changed their targets, scored their target, then placed the scores on index cards where they were then given to the official scorekeeper, (Tom P).
Note: Due to the size of the targets, only the index cards were retained. This report does not include any images of any of the targets.

Most events featured Single and Double Action Revolvers and Semi-Autos. However, at the insistance of several shooters, the "Gunsmoke" category was added for Single Action SASS type revolvers.

Following "Gunsmoke", we ran our new match- STEREOTYPE GANGSTER. This match consisted of any semi-auto pistol shot "Gangsta" Style Ten Rounds at 7 Yards, followed by 15 Rounds at 50 feet. The gun had to be held and aimed "laying flat", knuckles up, sights parallel to the floor.

The Event

TV Land Shoot #4 was quite successful raising over $120 for charity.
Despite the icy and rainy conditions, we had 16 shooters participate in this event.

We had many outstanding scores in the 200s in many of the matches. The Top Shooter of the day was Gary M. who won SEVEN MATCHES!       Gary's LOWEST SCORE was a 227 WOW!!!
