In Honor of the
Men and Women of the American Military Services
Whose Sacrifices Have Made Our Freedom Possible.

New Jersey Arms Collectors Club
& Shongum Sportsmen Association

Invited one and all to compete with tangible links to
the battles of our Nation's History in our

2015 MEMORIAL DAY MATCH

A Marksmanship Competition using
firearms of our country's military from 1775-2010

Shooters celebrated our country's history by competing with the firearms
that helped to make this country great. From the Brown Bess, to the AR-15, we had a match for everyone.

The match was held on

Saturday, May 23, 2015

At The
Shongum Sportsmen's Mansfield
100 Yard Outdoor Range

10:00am - 4:00pm

LUNCH WAS INCLUDED WITH ALL PAID ENTRIES

The Shoot
Weather was perfect this year. Slightly cool with a light breeze that made most of our shooters need light jackets. Because our target frames are being stored at Shongum this year, Steve Serna was on hand to open the barn and have the frames ready for our shooters. We had an excellent turnout of about 20 shooters and except for three matches, we had entrants to all. The events with no entrys were: 1) Monmouth (Smooth-bore Flintlock), 2) Bull Run (Smooth-Bore Percussion Musket), and Rosie the Riveter-(Female Shooter)

Several shooters participated in the Audi Murphy Match, but only one score was turned in due to the size of the targets used.

Tom Plante handled registration and collection of fees and scored the targets. Stan Gurski and Steve Serna ran the line and made sure all safety rules were followed. At 1:00 we broke for lunch. Chuck Collins, our President and Cook prepared a lunch of fried Spam, Vegetarian Baked Beans, Pork & Beans, Beef Hotdogs, Kraut & chili. No one went hungry.

Tom started scoring late and because he participated in one match, most of targets had been turned in when he was ready to start scoring. Scoring assistance was offerd by Joe A. and his son, Matt, and by Newt M. As soon as lunch was finished and tall targets scored, the rife trophies were handed out.

Following the issuing of trophies, we then honored our American Fallen Heros - A Rifle Volley and Taps outside at the Flag Pole.

After the Flag Ceremony, the final Black Powder Matches were held. We had one entry each for the Battle of New Orleans, and Little Round Top. We finished up around 4:00 PM.

This year, we again held the "Audy Murphy" Match. This match was a two stage event fired at sihlouette targets. Starting a 100 yards, shooters fired 8 rounds from an M1 Garand in standing position, 8 Rounds from a kneeling position, followed by 7 rounds off-hand from a 19ll Auto at 25 yards. Combined scores determined the winner.

Several of the 19 Events scheduled had no entries and several had only one entrant- i.e. only 1 target was entered for scoring.

Note: For all you competitors - if you shoot for score, turn in your target regardless of how poor you think it is - you still might win!!
