New Jersey Arms Collectors Club

Invited one and all to compete with tangible links to
the battles of our Nation's History in our

2013 MEMORIAL DAY MATCH

A Marksmanship Competition using
firearms of our country's military from 1775-2010

Shooters celebrated our country's history by competing with the firearms
that helped to make this country great. From the Brown Bess, to the AR-15, we had a match for everyone.

The match was held on

Saturday, May 25, 2013

At The
Shongum Sportsmen's Mansfield
100 Yard Outdoor Range

10:00am - 1:00pm

LUNCH WAS INCLUDED WITH ALL PAID ENTRIES

The Shoot

On Thursday and Friday, torrential downpours threatened to extend into the weekend, but the forcast was for dry windy conditions as the storm had passed north and east of the Shongum Range. We woke on Saturday to cold, cloudy and very windy conditions. However there was no rain.

Six hearty souls braved the cold and high winds to participate in the shoot. Bob Weis had delivered the target frames on time. The Shooting Line was managed by Stan Gurski. After lunch, all the targets were scored by Tom Plante, who also served as our cook for the shoot. At registration, Stan issued the 1000 yard sihlouette targets to each registered contestant. Free practice targets were issued to anyone who asked for them.

About 6 shooters participated in the event. We had use of the 100 yard outdoor range until 1:00. As we did not have any pistol matches, the competition went fairly quickly. At 1:00 we broke for lunch.

Due to the threatening weather, many regular shooters did not attend. As we only had a total of ten or eleven people attend, we did not hold our Memorial Day Salute at the Flag.

Since our regular chef was unavailable, Tom Plante ran the kitchen. Tom & Stan supplied the food, beverages and cookware, but Tom did all of the cooking. Lunch consisted of Hot Dogs, Baked Beans, Chili, Spam, and soft drinks.

This year, we again held the "Audy Murphy" Match. This match was a two stage event fired at sihlouette targets. Starting a 100 yards, shooters fired 8 rounds from an M1 Garand in standing position, followed by 7 rounds off-hand from a 19ll Auto at 25 yards. Combined scores determined the winner.

Smoothbore Muzzleloaders were to be fired from the 25 yards also, however we had no entries in these contests.

Several of the 19 Events scheduled had no entries and several had only one entrant- i.e. only 1 target was entered for scoring.

Note: For all you competitors - if you shoot for score, turn in your target regardless of how poor you think it is - you still might win!!
