New Jersey Arms Collectors Club

Invited one and all to compete with tangible links to
the battles of our Nation's History in our

2011 MEMORIAL DAY MATCH

A Marksmanship Competition using
firearms of our country's military from 1775-2010

Shooters celebrated our country's history by competing with the firearms
that helped to make this country great. From the Brown Bess, to the AR-15, we had a match for everyone.

The match was held on

Saturday, May 26, 2012

At The
Shongum Sportsmen's Mansfield
100 Yard Outdoor Range

10:00am - 3:00pm

LUNCH WAS INCLUDED WITH ALL PAID ENTRIES

The Shoot

The weather started out nice but became quite hot later in the day. Rain threatened late in the afternoon, but only started after the event was over.

The Shooting Line was managed by Stan Gurski and the Score Keeper was Tom Plante. At registration, Tom issued 10 "Official NJACC" scoring targets to each registered contestant. Additional targets were sold at $1.00 each, and we actually sold quite a few. Free practice targets were issued to anyone who asked for them. As soon as the targets were retrived, they were given to Tom, who promptly scored them. At the conclusion of the match, only a few targets needed to be scored and the trophies were handed out by 3:30.

About 12 shooters participated in the event. We had use of the 100 yard outdoor range until 3:00. As we did not have any pistol matches, the competition went fairly quickly. At 12:00 we broke for our annual Memorial Day Ceremony followed by lunch of Spam, Beans, and Hot Dogs.

The ceremony had individuals form an honor guard and fire three volleys of blanks, followed by the playing of Taps. Upon the conclusion of the ceremony, lunch was served, and shooting resumed. Trophies were handed out after shooting finished.

Since our regular chef was unavailable, Chuck Collins ran the kitchen. Tom and Stan supplied the food, beverages and cookware, but Chuck did most of the cooking. Lunch consisted of Hot Dogs, Baked Beans, Chili, Spam, and soft drinks.

This year, a new event was added. It was the "Audy Murphy" Match. This match was a two stage event fired at sihlouette targets. Starting a 100 yards, shooters fired 8 rounds from an M1 Garand in standing position, followed by 7 rounds offhand from a 19ll Auto at 25 yards. Combined scores determined the winner.

All smoothbore Muzzleloaders fired from the 25 yards also. Since we had only one shooter, he joined the line with the Audy Murpy shooters to shoot in his match.

Several of the 18 Events scheduled had no entries and several had only one entrant- i.e. only 1 target was entered for scoring.

Note: For all you competitors - if you shoot for score, turn in your target regardless of how poor you think it is - you still might win!!
